Ariel School encounter
Dozens of pupils described an object and figures near their school. Early interviews are remarkable, but no physical record exists.
Fifteen minutes during morning break
At about 10:00 on 16 September 1994, pupils at Ariel School in Ruwa were outside while staff met indoors. Sixty-two children aged six to twelve later described one or more silver objects descending near brush beyond the school grounds and small, black-clad figures with large eyes. Some children ran back frightened, while others remained watching. Parents arrived the following day after hearing the accounts.
Drawings and filmed interviews
BBC correspondent Tim Leach filmed interviews on 19 September. Zimbabwean researcher Cynthia Hind visited the next day, interviewed groups and asked them to draw what they had seen. Harvard psychiatrist John Mack conducted further interviews in November. The children's drawings, early television footage and their repeated descriptions of the craft, figures and an environmental message made Ariel one of the world's best-known group testimony cases.
