Navy pilot encounters
Pilots reported unusual objects in training areas for months. The videos are genuine Navy material, but unidentified does not establish their origin.
Objects appearing day after day
After radar upgrades in 2014, F/A-18 crews from the USS Theodore Roosevelt began reporting unfamiliar targets in East Coast training areas. Ryan Graves and other aviators said the contacts continued for months. In one near-miss, pilots described a dark cube inside a transparent sphere passing between two aircraft, turning the issue into an immediate flight-safety concern.
Gimbal, GoFast and new reporting rules
In 2015, infrared systems captured the videos later called Gimbal and GoFast. Gimbal includes aircrew discussing a group of additional targets, while GoFast tracks a small object over the ocean. Reports continued after the Roosevelt deployed to the Persian Gulf. The Pentagon formally released both videos in 2020, and the recurring encounters helped drive more structured Navy reporting procedures.
