A working system needs power, cooling, sensing, aiming and tracking. Delivering an effect requires enough energy at the target under suitable conditions. Distance, atmosphere, target motion and exposure time can shape the outcome, so source power alone does not describe overall performance.
The field includes experimental systems and demonstrations, including counter-drone applications, with maturity varying between programs. For coverage of military technology, claims should identify a specific system and documented result. The existence of directed-energy weapons does not identify the cause of an unusual light or an electronics failure. Connecting an event to a weapon requires evidence about that event and a matching mechanism.
