# Lights above the river in Sweden: what did SVT's night camera record?

Several lights move above the tree line during a Swedish nature broadcast. The same points appear in SVT’s official recording from May 1, 2026 near Junsele. Their movement is visible, but their shape and distance cannot be established from the recording.

What is visible

Several light points above the tree line in SVT's continuous night broadcast. Their positions change across the sequence.

What this frame cannot establish

The frame alone cannot establish distance, size, altitude, speed or origin. Compression also removes fine detail.

Image status: frame from the original SVT broadcast, not an illustration.

## The date circulating online was wrong

The repost was labelled September 3, 2026 and described as a trail camera recording. The on screen identifiers led to the Swedish public broadcaster's archive, where the sequence appears on May 1, 2026 at about 02:20. September 3 was the date of renewed circulation, not the recording.

## The official broadcast contains the lights

The SVT logo, Näset camera name and Övre älven 039 label appear on screen. The same lights appear in SVT's continuous recording, so they were not added only to the September repost. The copy received by the newsroom was reduced and compressed; the raw camera file was not released.

## Movement continues through the sequence

One light appears first and additional points then become visible across different parts of the sky. Some maintain a consistent apparent direction and vary in brightness. The limited resolution cannot establish whether they are one object, several objects or targets at different distances.

## Editorial hypothesis: could insects explain the images?

Camera manufacturer Swann's linked technical explanation describes how insects and particles near a lens can reflect infrared illumination and appear bright. That is a possibility to examine here. The points' image size and paths do not establish their distance or exclude that explanation.

## Distance from the camera remains unknown

The original camera file, lens specifications, depth measurements and another viewing angle have not been released. Distance, size and speed therefore cannot be calculated, nor can nearby insects or particles be excluded from the shapes alone.

## Sources and context

**Editorial clarification** · September 10, 2026
The claim that insects inadequately explain the sequence was removed. The points’ appearance and movement in this file are insufficient to exclude light reflected by nearby particles.

The sequence appears in SVT's complete official recording of Den stora älgvandringen. It was captured at about 02:20 on May 1, 2026 by the Näset camera near Kullberg and Junsele while the system was operating in night mode.

The original camera file, lens specifications, depth information and a second camera angle have not been released. Distance, size and speed therefore cannot be calculated. Infrared lit insects or particles remain possible but have not been demonstrated from the available copy.
