# One light or several? The four minutes above a pond released by the FBI

A recording from October 2024 shows a bright light above a pond in the northeastern United States for more than four minutes. The FBI said it authenticated the footage and assessed the witness as credible. Brightness and the number of visible points change, but the image does not establish whether several objects are present.

AARO published the file through DVIDS. It was cropped to protect the witness, but the FBI says no other visual alteration was made.

## At a glance

**What is known:**

The FBI released footage of a light above a pond and an account of its authentication.

**The claim or interpretation:**

The witness described a light separating into smaller points.

**What remains open:**

Authenticating the footage does not establish physical splitting or identify the light as plasma.

## Four minutes above the waterline

The recording shows a principal light above a dark landscape, with additional luminous points visible at times. Its apparent shape and brightness change. The witness said the phenomenon remained in roughly the same area for about forty five minutes before disappearing, much longer than the portion released publicly.

## The lower point did not look like a reflection

The account supplied to the FBI describes a smaller light below the main source near the water. The witness considered it inconsistent with a reflection. The file supplies no second angle or depth measurement to test that assessment.

## What government authentication means

The FBI is not declaring the light a nonhuman craft. Authentication means the file came from the described witness, the event was reported, and apart from a privacy crop the visual content was not manipulated. That is a stronger starting point than an anonymous upload, but it is not identification of the object.

## How a light can split without splitting

Two sources at different distances can appear as one when they nearly overlap along the line of sight, then separate as the camera or a source moves. Phone exposure can also merge adjacent halos. The footage and witness account describe repeated variation rather than one isolated frame. Without a second camera, those alternatives cannot be distinguished.

## It was not the only report in the region

The FBI connected the footage with several reports from the same general part of the northeastern United States. Released material includes triangle orbs, rotating red lights and a 2025 sighting in which two witnesses described spheres moving together. Geographic proximity adds context but does not prove a common source.

## Compare the witness account with PR003

The DVIDS record FBI UAP PR003 pairs the witness description with four minutes and twenty five seconds of video. The witness described roughly forty five minutes; most of that reported duration is absent from the public file.

## Sources and context

**Editorial clarification** · September 7, 2026
The headline now asks about the lights visible in the frame. The footage described in the article does not establish that one physical sphere split into several objects.

FBI UAP PR003 contains four minutes and twenty five seconds recorded on a phone by a civilian in October 2024. According to the FBI description, the light appeared above a pond at an estimated range of 2,700 feet, remained in the area for about forty five minutes and produced no sound. The video was cropped for witness privacy but received no other visual editing or enhancement.

The exact location is withheld, and no radar data, second angle or independent range measurement is public. The descriptions plasma like sphere and separation into smaller points come from the witness and the appearance of the footage, not spectroscopy or proof that the lights formed a single body.
